The Certificate in Counselling Concepts course is for anyone with no experience in counselling.

  • Candidates will need to be able to commit time/energy to the course in order to complete it successfully
  • Candidates need to be willing to be active participants in practical sessions
  • Candidates need to be receptive to self-exploration and reflection, plus prepared and able to give and receive personal and sensitive information confidentially and in a non-judgmental way
  • Candidates who have been recently bereaved or have recently had, or are currently receiving psychological treatment should discuss this with the course tutor

How long does the course last?

10 weeks

What could I do after completing the course?

On successful completion of the course mature candidates who are interested in continuing towards professional counselling can apply for the Intermediate Certificate in Counselling Skills or Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Counselling.

How will I be assessed?

  • A 1 hour test externally set and marked taken under exam conditions.
  • A journal entry for each class session.
  • Formal skills role-play assessment.

Requirements of the course – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Normally there is a minimum 80% attendance for the course; however it is important to attend all sessions if possible, especially as there are formal assessments/timed tests. The timed test can be done in the evening.
  • If work is referred or failed it will need to be resubmitted, or in the case of the timed test, re-sat, in order to successfully complete the course.
