Within the BTEC programme students can now follow a “pathway” in Production Arts which is a practical and vocational qualification designed for students with a real enthusiasm for and some ability in lighting, sound, stage management and design within the Performing Arts Department. The Certificate can be taken as a single option alongside 2 or 3 other A levels. The course is suitable for all learners wanting to work in the theatre, whether they are backstage or onstage.

Production Arts which is a practical and vocational qualification
designed for students with a real enthusiasm for and some ability
in lighting, sound, stage management and design within the
Performing Arts Department. The Certificate can be taken as a
single option alongside 2 or 3 other A levels. The course is
suitable for all learners wanting to work in the theatre, whether
they are backstage or onstage.
Production BTEC learners can follow different ‘specialist’ tracks.
For the Theatre Technology Certificate learners are introduced to
the operation of sound, lighting and video equipment within
performance situations. All aspects of the production process are
covered in the course and the ‘training’ work takes place in the
college’s purpose built Theatre and studios.
Costume Design and Set Design are two other possible tracks in
which students possible tracks in which students will focus on
creating designs, models and actual costumes and sets for specific
productions. Students at Aquinas can combine this qualification
with one, two or three other AS levels in related subjects such as
Acting, Performance Studies, and Dance or with a broader range of
diverse subject areas.
Theatre Technology modules include technical stage
operations, stage lighting design, stage sound design.
Costume Design modules include developing costume design
skills, designing costume for performance, production arts
workshop.
Set Design modules include stage design for performance,
stage model making, designing costume for performance.
