What is the Project?
The Project is a Level 2 qualification in which a student may research and develop a piece of work that may be linked to other subjects studied or may be of interest to them eg: related to sport or leisure activities
The Project may be evidenced as a written and/or physical piece of work:
- Reports – ‘What makes an unethical advert?’ or ‘How will the credit crunch affect going on to University/or getting a job?’
- Performance – ‘How to capture the consumer’s attention to a new project – a video or performance’
- Artefact – ‘a series of photographs and text for a publicity brochure or leaflet’

What do students learn?
- Research skills
- Exploring possible project ideas eg: ‘what is an acceptable advert?’ where a number of controversial advertisements are explored and discussed.
- Developing project skills – thinking, creative and technical skills
- Planning and Project management skills
- Skills appropriate to individual project eg: report writing, using a video camera, creating a performance
Progression
Students may progress their studies to the Extended Project at
Level 3.
The course teaches the key elements of research skills (manual and
electronic methods) and gives students a real opportunity to
explore areas of interest and carry out independent project
management tasks – valuable for higher level studies and the
workplace.
