Art and Design Level 3 Extended Diploma
This two-year programme provides the knowledge, skills and understanding you need to progress to university and/or a career in art and design. At the beginning of the second year you will have the opportunity to select your particular pathway and specialism.
This course consists of 18 units.
It is a broad based approach to art and design encouraging you to try all major specialisms to identify your strengths and particular interests. It is made up of five common units which everyone takes ten specialist units that enable you to study particular areas in depth and three 'confirmatory' units at the end of the course.

It is a broad based approach to art and design encouraging you to
try all major specialisms to identify your strengths and particular
interests. It is made up of five common units which everyone takes

You will spend the first year completing units which introduce you
to new skills and processes and provide opportunities to experiment
with a wide variety of materials and techniques. At the end of the
first year you will exhibit your summer term project and select a
specialism. In the second year you focus on your particular area of
study and complete specialist units to produce an individual
portfolio.
You will study subjects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, illustration, ceramics, wood, metals, interior design, furniture design, printed textiles, woven and knitted textiles, surface pattern fashion, theatre costume and accessories.
Applicants for a level 3 programme will normally have:
- at least four GCSEs at grade C or above (including some subjects
related to the proposed area of study) and/or a completed level 2
award
- the willingness to study for an additional level 2 qualification
in English and/or maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an
internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and
numeracy needs supported within the programme.
All students are assigned a personal Tutor whose aim is to enable you to make an informed decision as to your future. Students are extremely successful in progressing to employment and also specialist art and design courses at this college or at a university.
The last three units constitute the final major project and will provide you with an exciting opportunity to produce a personal collection of work which is exhibited as part of the end of year shows
