What is this Sports Science (Outdoor Activities) degree about?...

Key to this Sports Science (Outdoor Activities) degree is the scientific studies of human responses to the outdoors and of performance in the outdoors. This is combined with an opportunity to develop your own outdoor skills concentrated in the practical Water- and Mountain-based modules and the Expedition module. You will also have the opportunity to work towards National Governing Body recognised qualifications in various disciplines e.g. mountaineering and kayaking.

In addition to the subject specific areas of Physiology, Psychology, Biomechanics, Motor Control and Learning, there are three other components to degrees that all students undertake:

  • The Academic Skills module helps with the transition from school to university. It develops the concept, and understanding, of academic reading and writing, presentations, IT skills, academic referencing and how to avoid plagiarism. These skills will stay with you throughout your academic and future career and support your learning skills in other modules.
  • The Advanced Employability module offers the opportunity to develop the skills relevant to your degree and future career. Students obtain qualifications and complete work experience that is aligned to their post-degree aspirations. They are required to develop a portfolio to record these achievements, reflect on past progress and plan future achievements.
  • Research Skills, Project and Dissertation (all students except those on a joint honours PE course).
