Adult Foundation Functional Skills

Who is this course for? This course is for adults who wish to improve their English and maths to prepare for further study and /or employment. What qualifications or experience do I need ? You do not need qualifications to start this course. Your reading, writing and speaking should all be very nearly at the level of the course. To find out your reading level, you will take the BKSB online assessment , to find out your writing level you will do a writing assessment; and to find out about your speaking and listening, we will have a discussion with you. To find out your numeracy level you will take the BSKB online assessment. What will I study ? The course covers: - English - Students will develop all areas of reading, writing and oral communication. - Maths - Students will be offered a programme to develop their basic numeracy. - Information Technology - Students will have the opportunity to use a variety of software, develop their keyboard skills and become familiar with the internet and word processing. - Tutorials - Students attend weekly group tutorials and have an individual tutorial at least once a term. How will I be assessed ? E2 and E3 English: Assignment in class. E2 and E3 maths: Assignments in class. E2 and E3 ICT: Assignments in class. What qualifications could I achieve ? Functional Skills E2 and E3 English. Functional Skills E2 and E3 maths. Functional Skills E2 and E3 ICT. What can the course lead to ? You can progress to a higher level English and maths course and ultimately a vocational course. How do I join the course ? Attend one of our open enrolment sessions. Will I need an interview ? Yes , this will normally take between one and two hours and includes assessment of your English and maths and allows us to place you on a suitable course.
