Who is this course for? Childcare workers in variety of settings working with children aged 0 - 8 years. The course aims to develop an understanding of theory as it relates to practice and will enable you to gain Senior Practioner Status. This course will also enable you to continue with your studies and to progress into Early Years Primary Teaching. The course offers the underpinning knowledge to gain a level 5 qualification. Who is this course for? Childcare workers in variety of settings working with children aged 0 - 8 years. The course aims to develop an understanding of theory as it relates to practice and will enable you to gain Senior Practioner Status. This course will also enable you to continue with your studies and to progress into Early Years Primary Teaching. The course offers the underpinning knowledge to gain a level 5 qualification. What qualifications or experience do I need ? Applicants must hold a level 3 qualification in childcare or related subject. Appropriate qualfiications include: NNEB, DCE, DPP, CTA3, NVQ3, GNVQ Advanced Health and Social Care. Applicants must be employed, or have significant voluntary work, in a childcare setting. What will I study ? There are 12 modules of study. Two are studied each term. Subjects include: Introduction to Childhood Studies, Study Skills, Professional Studies, Learning and Development, Sociology and Social Policy, Curriculum Studies, Management and Special Needs. Assesment is by a range of written assignments. There are approximately two assignments per module. As a Foundation Degree student you will be a student of Middlesex University and Barnet & Southgate College. How will I be assessed ? Assignments, presentations and exam. What qualifications could I achieve ? Middlesex University Foundation Degree Early Childhood Studies. What can the course lead to ? This qualification leads to Senior Practitioner Status and is a recognised Level 4 qualification for management roles in childcare settings. You may also progress to the third year of the BA in Early Childhood Studies. The Foundation Degree carries 240 CAT points. Can also progress to Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). How do I join the course ? All applicants for this course will be interviewed. The interview includes a written exercise to assess your suitability for the course. Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? Some funding may be available from the local Early Years Partnership. You will qualify for Full Time student loans. If you are on a low income you may have all, or part, of the fees waived by Middlesex University. You will also need to purchase books and study materials.
