If you are over 21 without formal qualifications, your application will be appreciated providing you can show a high level of ability and relevant experience. What will I study ? The course allows you to enter the sports industry with an emphasis on sports coaching principles that are generic. However the principles can be used in any specialist sport or the sports industry as a whole. The aims of the programme are: - To develop a competent sports coach who will be able to plan and deliver structured coaching sessions - To equip students with a range of coaching and scientific skills used in professional sport. - To develop a sound foundation in organisational, management and research skills, which will be built on throughout your professional life. The course is divided into modules, taught in semesters (there are two semesters per year). You take six compulsory modules per year. Year 1 Compulsory Units - Professional & Skills Development - Analysis of Movement - Sociology in sport - Sports Placement Year 2 Compulsory Units - Sports Placement - Research Methods and Processes - Coaching skills - Sports Development and Marketing How will I be assessed ? Coursework and examinations Modules are assessed at the end of a semester by a combination of written assignments, laboratory reports, practical and written examinations. Additional vocational qualifications may also be externally examined. However there will be no written examinations for year 1. What can the course lead to ? On completion of the Foundation degree, you will be eligible for direct entry to year 2 or 3 (depending on your grades) of the BSc Sports Exercise Science. You also could go directly into employment in areas such as coaching or working in a leisure centre. How do I join the course ? Application.
