Heating System Installers are increasingly being asked by clients how wood chip and wood pellet boiler systems might work in place of oil, gas or solid fuel heating. The BPEC Woody Biomass (installers) course has been developed with HETAS Ltd and the Solid Fuel Association. It is aimed at qualified heating engineers who wish to install domestic wood-based biomass heating systems, including both space heating and central heating appliances. It will help you select the most appropriate woody biomass system for your clients needs up to approximately 45kW in size, thus installing under the scope of the MCS Scheme.

Course Description

The BPEC Woody Biomass (installers) course has been developed with HETAS Ltd and the Solid Fuel Association. It is aimed at qualified heating engineers who wish to install domestic wood-based biomass heating systems, including both space heating and central heating appliances. It will help you select the most appropriate woody biomass system for your clients needs up to approximately 45kW in size, thus installing under the scope of the MCS Scheme.

The BPEC Woody Biomass qualification has been designed to comply with the requirements of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

This hands-on course is delivered over 4 days with practical assessment of skills throughout and a written test at the end. The certification fee and course handbook is included in the costs and candidates will receive a photo ID card with their credentials on successful completion. Candidates will receive the BPEC course hand book, refreshments, buffet lunch and written exam fees.

Cost £425 Course Duration: 3 days Entry Requirements

Anyone with 2 years of experience in plumbing or conventional heating engineering including and/or a formal qualification such as NVQ level 2/3. In addition a HETAS solid fuel qualification or equivalent is desirable.

  • Determining system sizes
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Fuel storage systems
  • Chimney requirements
  • Conducting a site assessment
  • Installation of woody biomass systems
  • System commissioning and handover to client
  • Health and safety and fire prevention
  • Regulations and standards
  • Operations and maintenance
