Course Description

This course has a national reputation: over 550 students have been trained at the col­lege over the last 12 years and our reputation in this area is second to none. Course content is continuously updated in line with the Local Authority responsibilities in order to provide relevant and appropriate information to practising and aspiring dog wardens. Successful candidates will gain the Bicton College Certificate and Pet ID Micro-chipping Certificate if enough dogs are available.

  • General veterinary health
  • Clinical diseases and recognising symptoms
  • Injury and bandaging, restraining and handling
  • Behaviour problems
  • Equipment
  • Microchip implanting
  • Handling practice
  • Public relations and handling people
  • Police and Criminal Evidence Act
  • Prosecution
  • Preparing and giving evidence
  • Reporting offenders
  • Written and verbal assessment

**The course runs from 9am to 5pm each day Monday to Thursday, with evening sessions after dinner Monday to Wednesday until 7.30pm.**

Formal assessment takes place on Friday morning, with a written exam paper and verbal assessment by the lead course tutor. Please note: Bicton College can arrange assistance for people with any degree of learning/reading/writing difficulty provided that we are given sufficient notice, preferably at the time of booking, but if necessary at the start of the course.
