Course Level: 2 Time Needed

Students are required to attend one day a week. In 2012 this will be on Tuesdays for Year 10 and 11.
The times of attendance are between 10.00am - 2.30pm.

Course Description

The aim is to meet the needs of learners who work or wish to work in the horticulture industry and to allow the students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment or career progression in the horticulture sector. We use naturally occurring opportunities and every week students will be timetabled to work within the extensive gardens and grounds at Bicton.

  • Improve your practical horticultural skills
  • Hard landscape construction
  • Soil and plant science

Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.

Assessment Methods

The teaching of these subjects will be a combination of both theory and practical sessions.

Assessment strategies will consist of practical observations, written evidence, reports and presentations.

Progression

Successful learners may progress to a full time post 16 Level 3 programme, Apprenticeship or employment.

All progression routes are reliant upon the student reaching certain levels in Literacy and Numeracy.
