This course is designed to enable students to have a thorough knowledge of trees, their care and maintenance. Students will also have the opportunity to gain industry-recognised NPTC qualifications in addition to the Diploma.

Entry Requirements

It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working at Level 1. You will also need to have achieved 4 GCSEs at grades A–D, including English, Maths and Science or equivalent.

What You Will Study

The programme will cover the following:

  • Chainsaw operation and maintenance
  • Health and Safety
  • Principles of machinery
  • Safe working practices
  • Tree felling, climbing and aerial rescue
  • Tree identification, planting and maintenance
  • Work experience (150 hours) – compulsory module

Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.

What Next?

Successful students may wish to progress to a Level 3 qualification such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture. Upon completion of the Diploma, students can seek employment in tree surgery, landscape gardening, estate work or with local councils or you could start up your own arboricultural business.
