What You Will StudyThe course will appeal to those who have a practical interest in the maintenance and repair of land-based machinery. The course blends the practical workshops with some theory in the classroom. The areas of study include:
Core Units:
- Safe working in the workshop with a range of different tools including spanners, hand and power tools
- Servicing, maintaining and working on a range of land-based machinery and equipment
- Welding and fabrication
- Tractor driving skills
- Work experience
Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional
qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.
You will also study nationally recognised Functional Skills qualifications (English, Maths and ICT) and Nationally recognised awards in welding and tractor operations.
What Next?Students can progress to the Extended Diploma in Land-based Technology after achieving an appropriate grade for the programme, or enter apprenticeship programmes in agriculture, plant maintenance or ground care machinery.
Owing to the broad base of the programme, career opportunities can be found in a very wide job market. Previous students have found employment in engineering with agricultural/horticultural firms, agricultural dealers and contractors and commercial vehicle repair.
