IELTS Preparation Course (Part-Time)

Our IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Preparation Course is delivered by Blackburn College, part-time , during the academic year. The part-time course is designed for people who already live in the UK and possess a high level of English language. The courses are for those who:

• Want to prepare for the test before they take it
• Need specific IELTS test practice across the four skills
• Need to get a specific score in IELTS
• Have already taken the test but not gained the score required so wish to take it again

The IELTS preparation course will:

• Focus on development across the four skills test: speaking, listening, (reading & writing- both general and academic depending on your requirement)
• Familiarise you with the test format
• Practice specific types of test questions
• Develop strategies for sitting each part of the test

The course can enable students to progress to:

• Level 5 courses at Blackburn College
• Degree level courses at University Centre at Blackburn College and other UK universities

(Depending on scores achieved across the skills)

A typical timetable will look like this:

If weeks fall where there is a bank holiday, the Monday class will take place on a Friday.

Entry Requirements

Intermediate
A student should have the equivalent of IELTS 4.5 to join the Intermediate course

Upper Intermediate
A student should have the equivalent of IELTS 5.0-5.5 to join the Upper Intermediate course

Advanced
A student should have the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 to join the Advanced course

You will be asked to provide evidence of your level as part of the application process. If you are unable to provide evidence of your current language level you will need to take an entry test at the college and the outcome of this will determine which level of course you are accepted on to.

Classes

Sessions will run from 5-7pm Monday to Thursday (total of 8 hours per week for 4 weeks). Total course hours are 32 hours. There will be a maximum of 14 students per class. A minimum of 5 bookings are required for these courses to run.

Learning materials

A variety of materials designed specifically for IELTS practice will be used during the course. In addition, past papers and tailor made activities will be available on our Virtual Learning Environment which will supplement the content of each session.

Course Fee and dates

The course fee is £240. (This does not include the test which must be paid for separately). Blackburn College is not an IELTS testing centre but the nearest centre is Manchester and our International Office can advise on test costs and bookings.
