General information

Students of AS and A Level History will acquire knowledge, but also learn how to use it in order to develop their skills of investigation, analysis and communication, as well as improving their understanding and evaluation of the past.

Course content

AS History will cover 2 units: The first unit studies Russia from 1890 – 1953 - the Russian Revolution, fall of the Tsar, Lenin and Stalin. The 2nd unit studies modern British Political History from 1945 – 1990. This includes the setting up of the Welfare state and Thatcher’s government.

The A2 syllabus covers: Unit 3 is exam based. It studies Germany 1900 – 1945. It covers Kaiser Wilhelm II, the rise of the Nazi government, …

Unit 4 is coursework based on International Relations 1890 – 1980. Two 2000 word essays need to be written.

Exam based.

Entry requirements

7 GCSEs grade C or above including English Language and at least 1 B grade.
