General information

Business Administration - you will develop essential knowledge of how to carry out everyday and more complex administrative tasks, such as managing information and supporting events. You will gain an understanding of employment rights, working with others and customer service in a business environment.

Text Processing – this qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to produce a variety of standard business documents from both paper copies and audio recordings - a skill you will need in order to work in a modern office environment. You will also learn to touch type, enabling you to develop and improve your speed. You will work at your own pace, which will create opportunities to achieve the qualification at a higher level.

Law and Legal Work – you will be given an introduction to, and an understanding of, the English Legal System, Criminal Law and Procedure and Aspects of Consumer Protection Law and Practice.

Functional Skills – this qualification will demonstrate to employers that you have the skills required to solve problems and work independently. You will develop your existing knowledge and use problem-solving to apply this knowledge to everyday, real-life situations.

WorkSkills – this qualification will give you the knowledge to help you when seeking employment. You will be guided through the creation of a CV, and will be given help on how to complete an application form, write a covering letter and prepare for an interview.

Teaching and assessment

You will study in bright, modern classrooms using up-to-date software packages that are commonly used in business. You will receive full tutorial support and have access to online resources.

Assessment is by course work/assignments, which are marked by teaching staff and verified by the exam boards. Text Processing and Functional Skills are external examinations, held throughout the year.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs with grades of C or above. These GCSEs should include English Language or an equivalent vocational qualification plus English Language GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2.

Progression

Secretarial, Administration and Office Skills Level 3. Alternatively, students may choose to seek employment as a junior administrator/secretary in a wide variety of business environments.

Dates and times

This course begins in September, and runs three days a week. The duration of this course is one year.
