Applicants will need to be motivated and enthusiastic and have a willingness to reflect industry requirements for dress code, professional attitude and customer care standards.

Core Skills:

Within this course, you will learn a variety of subjects including facials, manicure, pedicure, make up, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, waxing and reception work. You will also learn the importance of health & safety, working as a team and retailing. Functional skills in English and Maths are also included.

Assessment:

The course is assessed both practically and by means of GOLA online tests which are taken at the end of each unit. Evidence from these will go towards building a portfolio of evidence. Practical assessments must be undertaken on paying clients and must be completed in a commercially acceptable timescale.

Some other written work will be required for projects and assignments.

Students will also be expected to undertake research for work to be completed in class.

Academic Progression:

VRQ level 3 Beauty Therapy is the natural progression from this course and takes another year of full time study. Students must have successfully completed VRQ level 2 Beauty Therapy.

Another interview and a successful trade test will take place before progression onto level 3.

Career Progression:

On successful completion of this course, you could take up employment in a salon doing level 2 treatments. You could also be employed as a consultant for a cosmetics company working in a department store selling products and doing demonstrations to the public.

For other careers in the beauty industry we would recommend further study at level 3.

Full Description:

The qualification which is achieved on this course is NVQ level 2 Beauty Therapy, which is validated by the awarding body City & Guilds (C&G) Students are expected to achieve at least 90% attendance throughout the course. Attendance which falls below this may result in the qualification not being awarded. It is important that students have a mature and professional attitude as the beauty profession is a highly demanding and disciplined one. Personal appearance and professional appearance must be of the highest standard throughout the course.

An ability to undertake home study on a regular basis is essential; this is necessary for the anatomy and physiology content and also for research for class based activities.

Students should also be prepared to volunteer for extra curricular enrichment such as helping in college events e.g. open days, fashion shows, the Royal Norfolk Show and other off site activities.

Work placements in salons can be arranged for students showing motivation, but a part time job in a salon would be most beneficial to the students and would be encouraged by the staff.

Beauty Kit and Uniform Costs:All students are required to purchase the following;
Level 2 beauty equipment kit – approximate cost £150
Level 2 Make up brushes – approximate cost £45

Salon uniform (including shoes) £80
