What You Study:Your core units include subjects that are relevant in industry, including a basic introduction to software development, troubleshooting computer problems, learning how to work in a team, and understanding the legal issues surrounding the IT industry. You’ll learn how to administer Windows 7 and Server 2008 and could go on to take the Microsoft Vendor Certification to gain the MCTS/MCITP qualification.
You will also have the opportunity to achieve the Cisco IT Essentials certificate, a qualification essential for anyone wishing to become an entry level desktop support technician. Units taught further on in the course include learning how to design and build a small local area network and manage an IT project, a skill much in demand in industry.
After The Course:• Career – most companies have a network underpinning their business function so there are opportunities to gain employment supporting a company’s IT infrastructure
• Continuing study – students can move into either 2nd or 3rd year of related degree courses at a variety of universities including BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and Networks at Glasgow Caledonian University.
How Long:Two years, starting in August. You can also leave after one year with a HNC.
