You'll graduate with a qualification that meets the criteria required by the NHS Education for Scotland (NES), and a step up to a more rewarding phase of your career. This course attracts a substantial, non-means tested, bursary. The course has been designed to meet the NES Portfolio of Core Competencies for Anaesthetic Assistants to a Level 9 standard. As such, you'll learn all aspects of the theory and practices behind safe, holistic care in the anaesthetic and recovery phases of perioperative care. What's involved This course is to be studied over one year, and will involve you in online learning with teaching staff on hand to support you if necessary. Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseTo apply, you'll need to be a registered nurse or operating department practitioner (ODP) working in a department of anaesthesia with identified nominated anaesthetists who have completed or are enrolled in the NES programme for Clinical Supervisors.Additionally, you must have your line manager's support and a mentor who meets the following criteria: holds a position in the NHS that enables them to access or facilitate learning experiences for their student; holds a specialist qualification and/or postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience; holds a recognised mentoring qualification; is willing and able to spend time with their student on a regular basis and has experience and training in teaching students.You'll need to be of good health and good character and will be asked to attend an occupational health assessment prior to starting, and possibly during, this course.Fees Table2012/3 2013/4 Scotland £910 £910 European Union £910 £910 Rest of UK £3,250 £3,315 Overseas £4,845 £5,040 Fees displayed are correct at the time of publication but the University Court reserves the right to make changes in fees at any time, and without notice, before or after the student's admission to the University.Tuition fees are reviewed annually and will rise each year during your programme of study, at least in line with inflation.
