If you are a journalist or work in the communications and media sector, MA International Journalism for Media Professionals is specifically designed to help you enhance your global mobility, progress up the career ladder and move into new domains of professional practice. On this course you will join a community of media professionals around the globe in reflecting on your current practice and in expanding the scope of your professional expertise. The flexible delivery of this unique curriculum will enable you to continue to work as you study. One intensive on-campus residential week in Scotland’s thriving capital is combined with distance learning in virtual class- and newsrooms featuring the latest technology. Learning activities will build on your experience, and directly inform and develop your daily practice. Assignments will be tailored to suit your individual development goals. Tutors and mentors with substantial industry experience will support you in developing leadership attributes as well as the ability to apply advanced journalistic skills across a wide range of platforms, including television, radio, online, print and social media. Project work will strengthen your ability to work across geographical and cultural boundaries and help you acquire new areas of specialist expertise. You will explore innovative forms of media practice in a rapidly evolving global industry and engage with a variety of approaches to developing creative leadership and entrepreneurship. Your learning will be underpinned by modern research into global journalism and media practice. You will develop the ability to analyse the industry with academic rigour and appraise political, economic, regulatory and cultural influences in different global regions. What's involved You’ll learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, studio and newsroom sessions and through independent study. Learning will take place during one on-campus residential week as well as in an international virtual learning environment. If studied on a fulltime basis, this course can be completed within an academic year. You have the opportunity to engage in part-time studies, in which case the duration of studies should not exceed twelve trimesters. Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseYou need an Honours degree, and you need to have worked for a minimum of one year as a journalist, media practitioner, communications specialist or information officer.Instead of an Honours degree, you may have a degree-equivalent qualification.
