Additional NotesKits: Shoes; Uniform; Books Upon completion of the course, successful students will be able to become a member of a professional awarding body to obtain professional and public liability insurance. All applicants must be prepared to receive treatment by peers for practicing during practical sessions whilst learning procedures and health & safety. Students are required to practice movements on class peers to learn the full procedure before they progress to treating fee-paying clients. This qualification is recognised to meet occupational standards for employment in beauty salons, health and leisure centres, cruise-liners and working as a mobile therapist as a self-employed practitioner. This qualification forms the basis for progression to all massage therapies An intensive home study programme. Attendance is two evenings per week for one academic year. 90% minimum attendance required. INDUSTRY INFORMATION Income Many massage therapists are self-employed and charge a sessional or hourly rate, which can be between £20 and £60 an hour. With experience and skills in a range of therapies, earnings can rise to around £40,000 a year. You may also receive tips from clients and commission for the sale of beauty products. Figures are intended as a guideline only. The region offers a range of opportunities for surfing, sailing, surf lifesaving, Tarka Trail, Camel Trail and coastal paths. Industry skills gaps in the region include: sport specific technical skills; communication; management; team-working; planning and preparing work; initiative; project management; and problem solving.
Entry CriteriaUpon suitability throughout the interview. Must have caring nature, mature attitude, committed, self-motivated, impeccable appearance and sound educational background with an interest in human biology. GCSE Grade C in English or relevant experience in other fields e.g. nursing, sports An excellent college/work record.
