Delivery of Programme

The MSc in Teaching of Psychology will be a part-time distance learning course. Course material will be provided using the University’s virtual learning environment, Moodle.

Each module will be supported on a week-by-week basis with reading material, short formative assessment and peer group study. Students will also be expected to engage in private study.

The on-line element will include engaging with texts, with an emphasis on research articles, engaging with audio/audio visual media, conducting and submitting formative assessments.

The peer group study will be conducted through Moodle using discussion forum and blogs. Students will be encouraged to interact directly with their module tutor through a mixture of email and telephone contact.

Career opportunities

This programme provides excellent CPD for practising teachers of post-16 Psychology who wish to obtain a Masters level qualification to maximise progression through the teaching profession.

Course structure

The course will be delivered over three years. In the first year all students will study
  
Issues in the Teaching of Psychology (20 credits)
Issues in the teaching of Research Methods in Psychology (20 credits)
Either Teaching Critical Thinking or a Negotiated Learning module where both the content and the assessment format may be negotiated with your tutor (20 credits).

In the second year, all students will study

Contemporary Developments in Psychology (20 credits)
Contemporary Developments in the teaching of Psychology (20 credits)
Professional Development (20 credits)
 
In the final year you will complete a dissertation (60 credits) on a topic of your choice.

In the final year you will complete a dissertation (60 credits) on a topic of your choice.

Both psychology graduates and graduates from other disciplines may be eligible for this programme. You will need to be teaching psychology or related subjects at least part-time

Assessment

There will be a varied assessment structure and every attempt will be made to ensure that assessment tasks have relevance for your day to day work.
