What does the course include?

This course had a 100 per cent pass rate in 2011/2012.

If you are going to be 24 or older at the start of this course, you could be be entitled to an Advaned Learning Loan which will cover your tuition fees. Please click here for more information.

The AS award comprises of two compulsory assessment units:

  • Coursework on prose and drama
  • An Examination on poetry and an unseen prose extract.

The theme for both units is ‘The Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature’.

At A2 Level, you will study the theme of ‘Love Through the Ages’, which will cover the genres of poetry, prose and drama.

What do I need to get on this course?

English Language GCSE at grade C or above and preferably English Literature GCSE at grade C or above. If you are a mature student you will be considered on merit after a short interview and a diagnostic assessment.

How will I be assessed?

A Level English Literature is assessed through a combination of examination (60%) and coursework (40%).

Where does it lead?

The course is ideal preparation for you if you are considering a wider range of employment or further study options.

It is an excellent choice to complement a broad range of other subjects, as well as providing the opportunity for in-depth study of this interesting and absorbing subject in its own right.
