AS Further Maths is studied alongside AS or A2 Maths, and covers additional (very interesting!) subjects which are not in the main A level.

Many students study AS Further Maths as an additional subject alongside AS or A2 study. At A2 level, you would study an additional 3 modules giving you 2 complete A levels in maths. It is possible to study both years together in some circumstances.

The extra modules here include ‘decision maths’, which is related to the design of computer systems including games.

What do I need to get on this course?

You can do AS Further Maths alongside the main A2 or AS maths course, and anyone who is already doing one of these courses can enrol, though A2 students with weak AS grades may be advised not to do so. To do A2 Further Maths you really need to get a C in AS Further Maths.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through external exams.

Where does it lead?

Further maths is considered to be a difficult option, so often has high status with universities. However, if you are not planning to do a mathematical subject at university you need to check that it will count as a separate subject.

Some courses will want your UCAS points to come from three different subjects.
