Summary

This course covers working with children from birth to 19 years of age, however the main placement experience, in a range of childcare settings, will be with the younger age group. You will benefit from practical experience in a work placement for three days each week, which will be supported by your studies, learning about children's development and your role as a practitioner in the setting, positive childcare environments, communication and children's play and learning .

  • A successful HRC Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • You must demonstrate suitability to work with children and adults, show empathy and a keen interest in working with and helping others, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Applications are welcome from male and female students.

What will I be doing on the course?

The courses comprises 3 Core Units and 9 Additional Mandatory Units, plus a small number of optional units which will be identified at the start of the course. Some of the units focus on knowledge and understanding and others on skills, using the topics:

  • All about me
  • All about the setting
  • All about legislation
  • All about the child

How will I be assessed?

Through practical observation and written assignment tasks.

What can I do next?

You may apply to study a further course at Level 3

Additional Activities

You may also have the opportunity to achieve qualifications in the Functional Skills areas of English or Maths at Level 1 or Level 2 .

You may study NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Nutrition and Health and undertake First Aid and Health and Safety Training.

You will have the chance to take part in additional activities, such as charity fund raising and exciting trips and visits.
