This module aims to enable participants to apply theoretical knowledge and understanding gained on the modules 'Literacy or ESOL Theories and Frameworks' and 'Literacy, ESOL and the Learners.' Masters Level Module


This module aims to enable participants to apply theoretical knowledge and understanding gained on the modules 'Literacy or ESOL Theories and Frameworks' and 'Literacy, ESOL and the Learners.' We will relate professional practice to established techniques of enquiry and analysis within this discipline as well as the theories and principles of reflective practice. The overarching focus of the module will be practical application of theories and approaches. This will involve: selection, design and evaluation of teaching resources; analysis of the processes and skills involved in reading and writing, speaking and listening, drawing on enhanced knowledge of language systems and understanding of social and cultural aspects of language use; application and evaluation of specialist learning theory; and critical reflection by participants on their professional practice. There will be 12 hours of face to face tutor-led sessions. The remainder of the module will be in the form of teaching observations with formative feedback and tutorials and discussions and peer led. The aim is to create and maintain a stimulating and supportive learning community.
