Masters Level Module
This module will be of interest to students wanting to familiarize themselves with debates around participation in and the use of research. We will critically analyze research from the perspectives of policy makers, practitioners and personal decision makers, and explore methods for evidence-informed decision-making. The module will include innovative methods for involving different actors in doing and using research. It will draw on theoretical literature and systematic reviews of the area to provide a broad base of understanding, and practical exercises designed on real examples. Masters Level Module
This module will be of interest to students wanting to
familiarize themselves with debates around participation in and the
use of research. We will critically analyze research from the
perspectives of policy makers, practitioners and personal decision
makers, and explore methods for evidence-informed decision-making.
The module will include innovative methods for involving different
actors in doing and using research. It will draw on theoretical
literature and systematic reviews of the area to provide a broad
base of understanding, and practical exercises designed on real
examples. This module is taught online, and requires participation
in individual and group activities over a total of 15 weeks. A
working understanding of systematic review methods will be an
advantage. The module aims to: - appraise the research literature
about bridging the gaps between research and policy, practice or
personal decisions; - consider the research needs of policy makers,
practitioners and personal decision-makers; - explore mechanisms
for encouraging research based policy, practice and personal
decisions; - explore mechanisms for supporting policy maker,
practitioner and public service user involvement in
research.
