Masters Level Module
The module will be of interest to PGCE students in a wide range of subjects especially citizenship, religious education, science and history. All these subjects (as well as many others) involve the teaching of contentious and widely debated issues, the teaching of which can require considerable thought and skill. The course provides an exploration of theoretical and practical issues relating the teaching of controversial issues in schools. It introduces to some of the key theoretical debates relating to the teaching of controversial issues, examines the relevant legal framework as well as modelling and discussing different pedagogical strategies. …
