This core module of the MA in Mathematics Education addresses significant issues in mathematics education at all levels of education. The role of mathematical knowledge in the curriculum and in teaching and learning is a major theme, as is the role of the social context in which mathematics and mathematics education are done. This includes consideration of mathematics in the workplace and in different cultural settings as well as issues of gender, social class, language and assessment.
