The experience you bring

This course is designed for people with some experience of the subject, either in their first degree, or in working life. We'll help you build on your existing knowledge and prepare you for a successful career in branding.

For that reason, we ask you to be either:

  • a new graduate who's studied business, management or economics, with at least 25% of your overall degree in one of these three subjects, or
  • a graduate in any subject, with three or more years' experience in marketing or strategy work.

Either way, you must have a good degree: an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or its international equivalent. If you're applying but haven't yet completed your degree, please send us an official copy of your most recent marks statement. Please make sure that you include details of the marking system that your university uses.

Getting to know you

To help decide if the course is right for you, we ask you to submit a written statement with your application, setting out why you want to do this course, and why you're passionate about branding.

We'll ask applicants who meet our requirements to take part in a phone interview with our professional course director, Robert Jones. He'll be looking for enthusiasm about, and some knowledge of, brands.

Students for whom English is a foreign language If English isn't your first language

We welcome applications from students whose first language is not English or those whose degree was not taught in English. To ensure such students benefit fully from postgraduate study, we require evidence of proficiency in English. We also will require a certain standard to be achieved on the written element of the test. Our usual entry requirements are as follows:

  • IELTS: 7.0 overall (minimum 6.5 in all components)
  • TOEFL: Internet-based score of 98 overall (minimum 20 in listening, 21 in writing ; 21 in reading and 22 in the speaking components)
  • PTE: 70 overall (minimum 62 in all components)

In certain circumstances we may require you to complete a Pre-Sessional English for Academic Purposes course prior to beginning your programme. This course may be taken at our INTO Language Learning Centre.

Course Profile

Brands and Strategy

This module is designed to familiarize students with contemporary strategic brand management theory and practice. The focus of the course is on learning brand and brand related concepts (e.g. brand equity and brand extension) and an understanding on how organizations can invest in building strong brand image and equity. Strong emphasis will be placed on a) psychology and customer-based conceptualisation of brand; b) holistic approach to brand building, instead of pure marketing-communication based approach; c) combination of both most recent academic brand research and contemporary branding practice. This module is concerned with understanding the relationship between brands and society and, by drawing on the expertise of other Schools at UEA, it brings a wide range of perspectives from the social sciences. Innovation and Organisational Transformation

The aim of this module is to explore the relationships between innovation and change in organisations, on the one hand, and brand management and leadership, on the other. It is widely argued that the survival and growth of individuals, businesses, cities and whole nations increasingly relies on their capacity to develop not only new products, services and processes, but also new organisational structures, new cultural forms and new ways of life. Fees And Funding

Fees for the academic year 2013/2014 will be:
  • UK/EU/International Students: £16,000

International applicants from outside the EU may need to pay a deposit.

Living Expenses

Approximately £7,500 living expenses will be needed to adequately support yourself.

Scholarships and Funding

The following MSc Brand Leadership scholarships may be offered to Home/EU and overseas students:

2 x £8,000 scholarships to be awarded to Home/EU students

2 x £8,000 scholarships to be awarded to Overseas students

Closing date for scholarship applications is 28th February 2013

In addition scholarships of £1,000 are available for all UEA alumni. Scholarships of £3,000 are available for all students who have previously graduated from Norwich Business School, either in Norwich or London.

There are also 4 x £4,000 bursaries available to candidates who already hold an offer for the Brand Leadership programme. To be considered for a bursary you must have emailed us by 30th June 2013.

How to apply for a scholarship

To apply for any of the above scholarships, please send us a 750-word statement describing yourself as a brand and what you will contribute to the cohort of the 2013 Brand Leadership programme. Please email your 750-word statement to scholarshipsnbs@uea.ac.uk. If you apply for a scholarship and are unsuccessful, you will automatically be considered for a bursary.

Other scholarship information:

Scholarship applications will only be considered from candidates who already hold an offer of a place on the Brand Leadership programme.

The deadline for submitting a scholarship application is 28th February 2013

Scholarship applicants will be informed whether they have been successful by the end of August 2013.

Successful scholarship applicants will have the amount awarded deducted from their tuition fee once they have registered for the course.

A student who is awarded a scholarship will not be eligible for a bursary, if one has already been awarded. A student can only accept one scholarship or bursary.

How to apply for a bursary

If you have applied for a scholarship and are unsuccessful in your scholarship application, we will use the same 750-word case to consider you for a bursary. However, if you are only applying for a bursary, please send us a 500-word statement outlining how you would contribute to the 2013 Brand Leadership cohort. Please send your 500-word statement to scholarshipsnbs@uea.ac.uk

Applicants who are offered a bursary will have the amount deducted from their tuition fee once they have registered for the course.

2012 Brand Leadership Alumni Event

Brand leadership students past, present and future got together at UEA London on 20th August for an evening of lively debate and much fun! Current students showcased their research work to invited guests from the world of branding and Professor TC Melewar from Brunel University gave us an insight into his research on Corporate Branding.

It was great to see so many of our alumni at the event, most of them working in top London agencies. This is set to become an annual event which will go from strength to strength.
