PURPOSEThis programme is one of the first of its kind in the UK
and Europe and is designed for people wishing to gain up-to-date
knowledge and understanding of psychology and psychiatry as applied
to the workplace. Students include HR managers, organisational
consultants, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses, occupational
health professionals and psychology graduates wishing to enter
these occupations.
DESCRIPTION
The programme draws on psychological, psychiatric and organisational theory and evidence to examine the causes, effects and consequences of mental ill health in the workplace.
Modules include: Basic Mental Health; Mental Health in the Workplace (OPP1): an introduction to the concepts of psychological theory and organisational analysis and their applications; Strategic Interventions for Psychological Well-being in Organisations (OPP2): an in depth coverage of mental health issues in the workplace, with emphasis on the interaction between individuals, organisations and broader social, political and economic contexts of work, strategies and interventions to improve and promote mental health and the use of organisational case studies; a Research Methods module, and a Dissertation. All modules are delivered on Tuesdays apart from OPP2 which is taught on Wednesdays.
Students are encouraged to develop a critical awareness of
contemporary issues and problems in relation to improving mental
health at work at individual, interpersonal, organisational and
policy levels and to apply this knowledge and understanding to
their own workplace/area of interest.
