There are many people working in a paid or voluntary role who may be at risk of contracting or spreading infection due to the nature of the job they are undertaking. Infection control is essential knowledge for all those working in any hospital, nursing and care setting; in fact it is also often now considered relevant for those working in other types of group settings where there may be similar risks of infection spreading such as prisons, schools and hostels.
There are many reasons why we must try to control the spread of infection, not least because it is our legal responsibility with the duty of care for our patients/clients. The Control of Infection and Contamination Programme is designed to complement the work you carry out in the work place by supporting your practice with underpinning knowledge, whether you are experienced or new to your role.
The aim of this course is to enable students:
- To understand the different causes of infection
- To understand how infections are transmitted
- To outline the possible methods of the control and prevention of cross-infection.
The Distance Learning Prevention & Control of Infection course concentrates on an important aspect of Infection Control. By undertaking and completing this course, you will increase your knowledge of the risk of infection in the healthcare environment and develop your skills in minimising these risks. On successful completion of this course you will gain a qualification in infection control that is mapped to the Skills for Health Infection Control workplace competencies, certificated by a nationally recognised Awarding Body.
