What’s involved?
(Certificate and Subsidiary Diploma)
Music Production Techniques
You will learn Multi-tracking techniques including the use of microphones, mixing recorded tracks and completing a stereo master recording.
Sequencing Systems and Techniques
You will develop your knowledge of music sequencing software and the transferable skills
that facilitate the realisation of musical ideas in both audio and MIDI environments. You will develop the skills to set up, use and discuss sequencing systems and techniques.
Listening Skills for Music Technologies
You will develop your listening skills with a focus on the sound and musical components particularly of interest to music technologists.
(Subsidiary Diploma only)
Audio Engineering Principles
You will gain knowledge in both analogue and digital audio principles. You will gain an understanding of the theory behind audio processing, current practices in interconnection and storage and be able to interpret equipment specifications.
Delivering a Music Product
You will experience the process of creating and delivering a product – probably a recording for CD, download or streaming, within guidelines typical within the music industry.
Sound Creation and Manipulation
You will develop skills in using synthesisers and samplers in various creative music projects. This unit will help you develop an understanding of how sound works, which is of vital importance to your work as a music technologist.
Entry Requirements:
· A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language (grade C or above preferred)
Or
· Level 2 vocational qualification at Merit level and English Language GCSE (grade C or above preferred).
If you do not have a grade C or above in English Language or Maths, you will study these subjects as an essential part of your programme of study.
Which courses go well with this?
This course can be combined with a range of other programmes – further Certificates and Subsidiary Diplomas in Performance or Music. Alternatively it can be combined with a range of other options - AS Levels and BTECs, including Product Design.
Progression:
This course could help you gain access to Higher Education/Specialist Institutions, and will also prepare you well for working in the industry. Students have progressed on to higher education at various universities that offer BA Hons Music Production Courses. Students have also studied here at New College on our HND/HNC Music Production courses.
