What’s involved?

There are four units to study to complete the course.

Communicating in the IT industry

This unit identifies the different IT tools available for safe and secure communication and exchange of information within an organisation. It will prepare students to use various communication channels effectively within a working environment. The effective use of communication and flexibility of styles within the workplace is essential and maintains good working practice.

Working in the IT industry

The IT industry is evolving and changing as new technologies are introduced; this unit will give students an insight into the skills and qualifications needed in the modern IT industry. Students will investigate the types of job roles available in the IT industry and what the industry is looking for in prospective employees. The unit will allow students to focus on what jobs are available and what characteristics they will need to secure a job. Students will also be aware that jobs may be far afield and not in their immediate area.

Website development

The internet is an essential part of everyday life, and an eye-catching website is part of that; in this unit students will design and build such a website. We will discuss areas such as internet shopping, communication, leisure, gaming and finding information. This unit will prepare students to design, create and test a fully functioning website to meet a client’s specification, while also providing the basic knowledge of the components that aid web accessibility.

Computer graphics

Everywhere you look, you are likely to see images and logos created on a computer; this unit will give students the knowledge of hardware and software required for graphics. Graphics come in a variety of formats, sizes and purposes. It will also guide students in the skills needed to create and use their own graphics appropriately. Using industry standard Photoshop software, students will create a variety of graphics and develop existing images for new purposes.
