This qualification assesses learner knowledge and understanding of practices in the care of individuals with dementia. This qualification does not infer competence in a work role but can be used as professional development for those who wish to gain knowledge in this specialist area of practice.

The materials for this course are paper based and will be posted to you. You will be supported throughout the course by a specialist Distance Learning Tutor. Your tutor will contact you (via your College email account) within 7-10 working days of receiving your welcome letter and materials. As you progress they will continue to make regular contact to offer support and guidance, usually by e-mail but sometimes by phone, to ensure you are making good progress and to support your learning throughout. Please note that you must be able to study independently through the course materials.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Unit 1- Dementia awareness
Unit 2- The person centred approach to the care and support of
individuals with dementia
Unit 3- Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia
care
Unit 4- Understand the factors that can influence communication and
interation with individuals who have dementia.
Student will complete all four units for Certification. Course work
will be internally and externally moderated.
The qualification is accredited by NCFE (an English awarding body) www.ncfe.org.uk and has no end test.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this award. Candidates wishing to undertake this award should have the minimum level of literacy and numeracy necessary to use the distance learning materials and to complete the assessment tasks.
