This programme, equivalent to SCQF level 5, provides students with the opportunity to improve their general education and further their understanding of the needs of children, and the skills required to care for them. Students follow a programme involving the study of care in a range of settings with the emphasis on childcare and playwork. The programme offers candidates the opportunity to gain one national recognised practical group award, the NPA Playwork and one National Course, the Skills for Work Early Education and Childcare at Intermediate 2. A genuine interest in working with children is essential. This programme will allow the candidate to gain a qualification to register with the SSSC.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The course is suitable for people with Standard Grades at general level. One of these must be English or successful completion of a relevant course at introductory level such as Skills for Work (Intermediate 1 SCQF 4). Any relevant work experience will also be taken into account.
Please note that for all care courses involving work experience placement, an offer of a place is subject to a satisfactory check through Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certifcate.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is aimed at both men and women of any age who want to begin a career working with children. It is an introductory level course but it will be challenging. You must have a willingness to work hard and a genuine interest in working with children.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment is varied. There will be practical assessments, open and closed book extended writing, reports, short answer questions, oral questions and role play.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion students may apply to undertake the NC Early Education and Childcare or enter employment in roles such as Creche Support Worker or Nursery Support Worker.
