A Foundation Learning programme will involve diagnostic assessment, mentoring, and information, advice and guidance for the learner from the point of first contact with the college.

These courses at entry level are especially relevant to young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, behavioural issues and those who have not achieved at school. There is a high level of pastoral care and support and learners and parents/carers are encouraged to build strong working relationships with the team in the department. Learners are expected to aim high, work hard and enjoy the course. They will discuss what they want to be doing in the future and set targets at initial interview before they start the course. There will be opportunities for them to experience different areas of vocational skills as well as improve their levels of maths, English and ICT. They will be involved in external community work, internal charity/fundraising events and may take part in competitions locally and in the South East. Learners will be challenged and supported to achieve at diploma level and encouraged to take part in work experience and enrichment activities when possible.
