What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

Either four GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics, or have satisfactorily completed the Level 2 course to merit level or an equivalent.

For progression to Year 2, you will need have a successful interview with the Course Tutor, a suitable reference from your tutors and successful completion of year 1 and a minimum of 85% attendance.

What does the course involve?

You will undertake a range of activities such as knowledge acquisition, research and practical work. There are 4 specialist strands available, but in the 1st year you will follow a common theme to give you experience of the broad range of IT offered by this programme.

In year 1, you will be in College for up to 4 full days, studying the following modules:

• Communication and Employability Skills for IT
• Computer Systems
• Information Systems
• Advanced Database and Spreadsheet Skills
• Communication Technologies
• Principles of Software Design and Development
• Computer Animation
• IT Essentials
• Additional curriculum: Oracle Data Modelling and SQL Programming

In year 2, you will have the opportunity to specialise in Business IT, Software or Networking. You will be in College for 3 full days, studying the following modules:

• IT Project (related to your specialist choice)
• Developing Computer Games
• Organisational Systems Security
• Website Production and Manage

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? You can continue your education to a Foundation Degree in IT, Media, Business or any other degree (subject to any entry criteria laid down by universities). You will have necessary skills to apply for employment in a variety of fields such as: • Systems Development • Sales & Marketing for ICT • Quality Management • Technical Strategy and Planning
