The skills taught on this course would be an addition to any portfolio of work and could essentially lead to work in the costume or fashion industry. A corset provides a wonderful base for any period costume making the wearer not only smaller in the waist but also making them stand taller and straighter and so is an essential part of a period wardrobe. A lot of the techniques on this course can also be used in making bodices and wedding dresses but above all it will create an opportunity for like-minded people to have fun creating their own item of clothing whilst learning something new.
The skills taught on this course would be ideal for both fashion and costuming professionals. It will be ideal for anyone wanting to enhance their CV, great for an amateur dramatic artist or re-enactment enthusiast, as well as ladies looking for bridal or alternative underwear – as corsets are guaranteed to alter your body shape, losing between 2-4 inches from your waist measurement.
This is a highly practical course, developing creative making skills. The course will be delivered through a number of technical lessons in order to complete the project. Examples of the finished project will be available as a visual aid and demonstrations of the various processes shown throughout. At the end of the course you will leave with a completed corset, corset pattern and enough skills, knowledge and notes to create another.
Basic machine and hand sewing skills are important for this course but no costume or dress making skills are necessary.
