In many ways this is one of the landmark courses we deliver. This is because on completion it qualifies the candidate to work in a fitness suite as a gym instructor. It also allows people to move onto other specialism's such as personal training and/or class teaching.

Students Will be working towards a CYQ qualification.

Unit Descriptions;
Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise: In this unit candidates will cover the knowledge an instructor needs about basic anatomy and physiology relating to exercise programming for apparently healthy adults of all ages.
Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health: In this unit candidates will gain a knowledge of what an instructor needs to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating.
Know How To Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise
and Physical Activity: In this unit candidates will
the necessary knowledge and skills needed to communicate with their
clients effectively, and motivate their clients to adhere to an
exercise programme. Learners will apply the knowledge and
skills they have learned to provide a more client focused approach
to their training.
Planning Gym Based Exercise: In this unit
candidates will gain the knowledge and skills required to plan and
prepare a gym-based exercise programme for an apparently healthy
adult, both individuals and groups. This also covers programmes for
14-16 year olds, older adults, ante and postnatal women and
disabled clients. (This unit does not cover running specialists
sessions for these other groups).
Instructing Gym Based Exercise: In this unit candidates will gain the knowledge and skills required to instruct and supervise a gym-based exercise programme for an apparently healthy adult, both individuals and groups. This also covers working with 14-16 year olds, older adults, ante and postnatal women and disabled clients. (This unit does not cover running specialists sessions for these other groups).
Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness
Environment: In this unit candidates will gain an
knowledge and understanding of an instructors need to maintain
health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments,
including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
