The course is intended for Application Programmers responsible for designing, writing and maintaining RPG and RPG IV/ILE programs on the iSeries.
This course assumes general working knowledge of Application Development Tools, (PDM, SEU, SDA etc.) and general database design (physical & logical files). If this experience is not present, additional modules can be added.

Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the RPG IV programming language structure and syntax, and will cover the basic concepts of the iSeries Integrated Language Environment (ILE).

This 5-day class covers a wide range of topics beginning with a summary of changes in RPG IV and concepts of the ILE environment.

RPG IV topics include: RPG III vs. RPG IV specifications, expanded limits, new keywords and data types and EVAL and free-form operation codes, and built-in-functions.

ILE topics include: how is ILE different, ILE predecessors and program types, modules, overview of service programs and program activation, the binding function and using binding directories.

During the hands on workshops the students will; use the source code conversion aid, make coding changes and add (BIF's) to the converted programs, create programs and bound modules and use the source code debugger.
