Course Description:
In this course students learn how to design and implement Novell eDirectory (version 8.8) trees and related components in any type of organization for different types of organizational goals using different types of network operating systems.
Students perform eDirectory design and implementation tasks on the following platforms: OES NetWare (SP1), OES Linux (SP1), and Windows Server 2003.
Students work within a real-world scenario to design and implement a new tree to meet the needs of a fictional organization, EduTrain. The scenario requires students to consider and apply guidelines pertaining to the following approaches to designing the structure of their eDirectory tree:
- Organisational
- Geographical
- Hybrid
Students are also introduced to design considerations and guidelines pertaining to identity vault trees and LDAP authentication trees (but these are not emphasized).
Students also work within the EduTrain scenario to work with other eDirectory tree design and implementation factors, such as:
- Partitioning and Replication
- Service Location Protocol
- Network Time Protocol
After the students' trees are designed and implemented, the EduTrain scenario they started with is modified to include the acquisition of a new company, ProLearn. The acquisition necessitates that they migrate data from the ProLearn tree to the EduTrain tree.
