Course Objectives
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Describe important concepts associated with managing POWER5
System p systems, such as Logical partitioning (LPAR), dynamic
partitioning, virtual devices, virtual processors, virtual
consoles, virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), and shared
processors
- Describe the features of the Advance POWER Virtualization (APV)
feature such as Micro-Partitions, virtual Small Computer System
Interface (SCSI), Shared Ethernet adapter, and the Partition Load
Manager (PLM)
- Use the System Planning Tool to plan an LPAR configuration
- Describe the functions of the HMC
- Configure and manage the HMC, including users and permissions,
software, startup and shutdown, remote access features, network
configuration, security features, HMC backup and restore options,
and the HMC disaster recovery procedure
- Describe the rules associated with allocating resources,
including dedicated processors, processing units for
Micro-Partitions, memory, and I/O for AIX 5L and Linux
partitions
- Describe and configure a basic Virtual I/O Server configuration
including virtual SCSI disks and Shared Ethernet adapters
- Configure and manage LPARs using the HMC Graphical User Interface
(GUI) and HMC commands
- Configure networking using VLANs between AIX 5L partitions
- Interpret physical and AIX location codes and relate to the key
hardware components
- Power on and power off the POWER5 system
- Configure and test the service tools on the HMC
- Use the HMC to back up and restore partition data
- Install AIX 5L and Linux in an LPAR
