The Programme

The Programme
This course is designed for school leavers who may have needed support at school, are not yet vocationally focused, want to gain confidence or need help in deciding their future. Students have the opportunity to gain a range of qualifications from Award to Diplomas. Students gain experience in a wide range of vocational areas at entry level including travel and tourism, catering, horticulture, woodwork, retail, hairdressing, motor vehicle, conservation and business administration. Independent living skills alongside personal and social development is included in the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to choose from elements such as law and order, independent living, the community, assertiveness and citizenship. The course includes employability skills through in-house enterprise projects and external work experience. Functional Skills are integral to the programme. Enrichment opportunities include residentials, a variety of creative and leisure activities.
The Programme Content
The programme is aimed at students who need additional support to enable them to access their learning. The qualifications are within the Foundation Learning framework, from entry level to Level 1 courses. Students work in small groups and are supported by a member of the learning support team.
Entry Requirements
Entry to the course is by a taster programme followed by an interview. Students will need to show they are motivated and able to travel independently.
Costs
Students are expected to provide appropriate clothing for vocational and leisure elements on the curriculum (eg safety boots). Students are also expected to finance residentials, educational visits and leisure activities*.

Progression
The course lays the foundation for progression. Through the review process and discussions with Careers South West, students may choose one of the following: another further education course, employment or supported employment.
