The Certificate course is equivalent to one AS Level. The
Subsidiary Diploma course is equivalent to one A Level. These are
practical, work related courses covering all aspects of the media
and video production. On the course you will learn a range of
production skills including scheduling, budgeting, camera use,
lighting and editing with a range of digital software that will
include the use of industry standard equipment.

and video production. On the course you will learn a range of

All skills must be demonstrated to a high level of competence and
supporting evidence provided in an assignment file, along with your
finished video production where applicable.
The Programme Content
The course will run on the A Level timetable and be offered as
an option for A Level students who want to mix AS Level and A2
Levels with a more practical orientated 'hands on' vocational
course. Standard college entry requirements apply. It will be
offered as a one year 30 credit certificate course or a two year 60
credit Subsidiary Diploma.
Students will employ similar digital video (DV) equipment to that
used by major broadcasters. Where possible there will be links to
local industry/clients, linking taught theory to real world
practise. Students must complete six modules at Pass, Merit or
Distinction to achieve the Media National Subsidiary Diploma.

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English.
Costs
You will be expected to purchase your own blank DV tapes, DVDs etc. Some projects may carry a small cost for props, costumes, makeup etc. We normally offer some voluntary educational trips to media institutions such as the BBC at a cost to be determined*.

Progression
The course can form part of the basis for entry into higher education courses including film and media production. Entrance into the media production industries requires further training, talent, persistence and an element of luck.
Length of Study
One year Level 3 Certificate course with a follow on option of a second year Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma.

This course starts in the 2013 / 2014 academic year.
