Over 14 years ago legislation made it compulsory to control noise hazards in the workplace. Still today, people remain uncertain about the damage to hearing caused by excessive exposure to noise.

The new Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 place increased emphasis on the need for proper training and instruction of employees. This seminar is designed to fully meet Regulation 10 (information, instruction and training) by highlighting the dangers posed by excessive noise levels and demonstrates how to take effective measures to reduce risks.

Who the course is aimed at:

Everyone exposed to noise at work should participate in such training. Vital to senior management and organisational decision makers.

Course content:

  • Awareness of noise – changing ingrained attitudes
  • 15min video outlining damaging effects and practical implications including use of personal ear protection and typical reaction of workers
  • Structure, operation and performance of ear
  • Sound/noise induced damage and relevant criteria
  • Measurement of damage (audiometry)
  • Live simulation of damage
  • Consequences of damage
  • Personal ear protection; demonstrations of its effectiveness
  • Noise at work regulations
  • Introduction to reducing noise
  • Implication for workers and practical workplaces

Course tutor:

Gordon Brown MCIEH MIOA

Training method:

Seminar – practical and interactive demonstrations. A large room is required to set up the various types of demonstration equipment. Minimum room size 8m x 8m is required to accommodate 25 people.

Course outcome/qualification:

PTC Certificate of Attendance.
