The Mental Capacity Act 2005 was amended in April 2009 to include the deprivation of liberty safeguards (DoLs).

These safeguards will ensure any person who needs to be deprived of their liberty in order to provide treatment or protection from self harm and who lacks the capacity to understand this, will be entitled by law to an assessment process, representation, right of appeal and a time- limited deprivation of their liberty.

Course objectives:

The workshop will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework for mental capacity and deprivation of liberty and in doing so will help you safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable adults.
