MBA Hospitality

The QMU MBA Hospitality fulfils the University’s vision of providing an industry relevant and inter-disciplinary experience
for students. We are widely recognised as a centre of excellence in hospitality; this course has been devised in consultation with employers and managers within the sector. Employers look ‘beyond the letters’ when recruiting and want employees with real-life experience; we’ve replaced the traditional dissertation with a student-centred, business focused project that allows you to investigate, design and lead a real world project. Within the hospitality sector the need for high performing groups and teams holds a particular importance. By connecting our modular structure, our course takes a clear and consistent focus on team and project dynamics, and challenges you to take on different types of roles in delivering objectives.

The teaching team who deliver the Masters programmes have experience of leading high profile teams within the hospitality industry and other related sectors. Our hospitality team have great passion and enthusiasm about
their areas of expertise and are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with you. Your fellow students will come from a wide range of both geographical and business backgrounds, enhancing the overall experience. Single Modules: Register as an associate student to study single modules in areas of interest

Duration: Full-time: 1 year; Part-time: 2 - 7 years
Start date: September and January
Application deadline: The deadline for all overseas applicants who require a visa to study in the UK should apply no later than the 30th June 2013.
Teaching, learning and assessment: You will attend lectures and seminars, work in groups, complete case studies, participate in field trips, carry out independent learning, participate in discussions, develop ideas, and engage with experiential learning. Assessment methods include management reports, essays, and reflection on practice and group work with presentations. A unique aspect of the course is the challenge to design, lead and reflect upon a project (or event) that focuses on an external business partner. You will be expected to frame this challenge towards the hospitality sector. Central to the programme experience is the regular involvement of guest speakers, who provide valuable insights into practice, contemporary trends and thinking.
Teaching hours and attendance: Modules you study on-campus require you to attend classes and carry out independent work. Attendance requirements at QMU depend on which module you are studying and whether you are full or part-time. In most instances the taught elements of the full time programme occur on Tuesday, Wednesday (AM) and Thursday. Part-time students have the option to select different routes each year.
Links with industry/professional bodies: QMU is an approved centre of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. As an approved centre, we are working towards facilitating CMI professional qualifications within our postgraduate awards.
