Apprenticeships are designed to let you benefit from real life work experience which you will get day-to-day on the job. This experience is supported by theoretical knowledge gained at college in both classroom and workshop based sessions/assessments. You will attend college on one or two days a week. You are assessed in the workplace by a qualified and trade competent assessor who will help support you and your employer in achieving your qualification. Some elements are assessed by exam.

An apprenticeship allows you to learn on the job while gaining knowledge and nationally recognised qualifications and earning money. As an apprentice you will earn a minimum of £2.50 per hour and have full rights as an employee. The college will assign you with your assessor at the beginning of the course. Your assessor’s role is to guide and support your development as well as to help choose when you are ready to be assessed.

You will need to be working in a relevant job and your employer will need to agree to support you in your training which involves giving you time to attend college and accommodating work-based assessments. There are no restrictions to become an apprentice however you will need to be a UK resident and you will need to be between the ages of 16 and 24.

You may be able to progress in your career to higher level positions or study at Level 3.
