Who is this course for?

If you are thinking of a career in childcare this course will give you the knowledge and practical skills to help towards achieving your ambition.

What will I do on the course?

This course is an introduction to working with children and provides the opportunity for you to progress onto other related courses such as level 2 and 3 Diplomas. You will learn the basic skills in caring for children and how to support their learning. Subjects you will study include:

• Sharing learning experiences with children
• The growth and development of children 0-18 years of age
• Play and how play supports learning
• How to respect and value children
• Healthy lifestyles
• Healthy eating
• How to listen and talk to children

Additional qualifications are obtained during the course including:

• An opportunity to improve Maths and English
• Level 1 Award in Personal and Social Development
• Level 1 Award in Learning to Learn
• Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainabilit

What qualifications do I need?

• 3 GCSEs at Grade E or above
• You should have a strong interest in working with children and demonstrate a commitment to succeed
• You will have an interview to assess your suitability for working with children. We will also take into account personal references

One year - full-time

What could I do after completing the course?

Further Education:

• CACHE Award, Certificate & Diploma in Childcare and Education (Level 2)

Please note that it is not possible to progress directly from this course into employment in childcare.

Are there any additional costs?

Learners may be required to purchase small items of personal equipment during the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
